ACT is helping to build a compact composting and biological stabilization facility on a Greek resort island. The facility is designed to process 300 metric tons of organic and green waste. On-site processing reduces the need to transport waste to the mainland.
The treatment process uses semi-permeable membranes to minimize odors, emissions, and other negative impacts on the island, which is heavily dependent on tourism. The compost produced remains on the island and can be used there by hotels and in agriculture. This creates a local cycle in which organic and green waste is transformed into a product that can be used directly on site.
