In contrast to <a href=\"https:\/\/a-c-t.global\/en\/winder-tm\/\">pull-type winders<\/a>, the SDM moves independently and can automatically wind and unwind membranes. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The device moves with four wheels between the mobile silos along the side walls of the windrows. In this way, the <a href=\"https:\/\/a-c-t.global\/en\/the-act-membrane\/\">membrane <\/a>can be picked up or deposited directly above the compost heap. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as the SDM is fully positioned between the side walls, the machine is switched to automatic mode. Sensors continuously monitor the distance to the side walls and automatically maintain the position. This reliably prevents collisions with the windrow bodies and the wrapping process can be carried out in a controlled manner.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDM is fully electrically powered and has a large battery capacity. This means that the device operates emission-free and can be used independently of a tractor unit. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An integrated catwalk above the wrapping drum also provides a good overview during the wrapping process and increases safety during operation.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages of the SDM<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDM was specially developed to move membrane covers particularly evenly and gently. Thanks to the stable operation, controlled winding and unwinding and precise guidance along the side walls, the membrane is subjected to significantly less mechanical stress. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This gentle handling leads to a longer service life for the membrane. This advantage is particularly noticeable on systems with many winding processes per year. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDM does represent a higher initial investment than <a href=\"https:\/\/a-c-t.global\/en\/diaphragm-winders-overview-of-act-winders\/\">other winding solutions<\/a>. However, the longer service life of the membranes and the more efficient system operation mean that this investment is amortized over time. Less membrane wear means lower replacement costs and lower operating costs in the long term.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Design and dimensioning<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wrapping devices are manufactured by <a href=\"https:\/\/wiro-metallbau.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wiro Metallbau GmbH<\/a> in Germany. The construction is mainly made of steel and is designed for long-term use under the conditions of a composting plant. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACT offers membranes for windrow widths of 8 to 13 meters as standard. The winders are designed for these sizes. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, these values only represent typical standard dimensions. In practice, systems are often designed differently. Our winders can therefore be adapted to individual requirements at any time. Special solutions and project-specific adaptations are no problem for ACT.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Particularly suitable for large systems<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDM really comes into its own in large composting plants with many windrows and a high material throughput.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Membranes have to be moved regularly on such systems. Thanks to its self-propelled design, the SDM can perform these tasks efficiently and with minimal manpower. The automated operation simplifies the workflow and ensures a consistent and reliable winding process.
